St. Matthew Center for Health's extensive recreational programs offer people of all ages possibilities for rewarding volunteer work. To be a part of our volunteer family, call the Recreation Services Department at 847-825-5531.

youth volunteers
Children from area schools come to St. Matthew to do craft projects with our residents, visit, and perform service projects. Individually, student volunteers help residents in the computer lab, visit one-on-one, and help with special events. Throughout the year, students from music and dance schools entertain our seniors with performances.

Volunteer Ed Bertram had never been in a nursing home before a family member came to St. Matthew for physical therapy. He said, “I noticed how the activities people take care of residents; how they touch them and smile. I feel good coming here, away from the unpleasantness of the outside world. The residents are so kind and pleasant.” Ed now volunteers regularly, helping with events and outings and providing musical entertainment.

Manicure day provides satisfying one-on-one time for volunteers and residents.
